How long does it take for my site to show up on the search engines after submitting?

Sometimes it takes 6 months to a year for the search engines to start to index a site.  A common misconception is that people think that they will put up a website and they will soon make a MILLION! Well, that’s not necessarily true now, in the early days of the Internet, I mean back in the MID to late 90’s, people would put up a site and sure enough,  the search engines would pick it up and YES people got website traffic and visitors.… and some would make some money… and others made a LOT of money!  Today, the Internet has changed, there are MILLIONS more websites than there used to be and its increasingly getting harder to get listed and be found. There is a lot of competition out there, and in order for you to get “positioned” on the search engines you need to employ many “tricks” to your website in order for the engines to even list you sometimes.  These “tricks” are known as “Search Engine Optimization”  (more info on this at our other site http://www.cybermedseo.com) . This is not the only challenge, websites sometimes get a LOT of search engine traffic but the website does not convert a visitor into a sale, lead or other desirable action such as joining a mailing list.
